AS is over... next is MYCTs :D

Hi Owl

AS is over ): and it was an epic show (: thanks to everyone who put in the effort to make the show a success. BTW venture dance was amazingly sick.

Anyway AS is over and there'll be a 2 week break for everyone to STUDY HARD for the mid-year CTs. Oh in case you were wondering the only change to the timetable is that every exam after 9th May has been pushed back one day. Everything before 9th May remains the same even though the RI website used to say that the languages CT is on 29th April.

Anyway after MYCTs (STUDY HARD) is AC :D

Especially sec 1s, make sure you can at least tie a proper, tight square lash. This is VERY IMPORTANT.

Good luck for your exams (:

Last AS Prep

Hi Owl

Annual Show is in four days and 2 hours!

It's already the final stretch so put in your best effort to make our show a success. Just FYI, 01's gangshow/campfires tend to be pretty awesome, at least a lot more than campfire's like COUGH st. andrew's COUGH.

"whats next?" "oh a game!" "what's next?" "oh a song!"

Anyway, here's the details for the last AS prep before AS itself.

Date: 19th April 2011 (Wednesday)
Time: 3.45pm - 6.45pm/7.15pm (please be prepared to stay back late)
Reporting venue: Gym Hall Atrium
Things to bring: According to your comms., signed consent forms for Annual Show itself
Reporting attire: PE attire

Please note that we will be having a full dress rehearsal tomorrow at 5.30pm. Due to this, some comms. (esp backstage + Venture dancers) might be released after 7.

PLs please remind your patrols, and also remind them to sign their consent forms!

PLEASE CHECK THIS BLOG MORE OFTEN.
And also visit the den more. It's a damn fun place cos you can just chillax there and talk cock and watch people play/get-owned-while-playing comp. You can also study there (not advisable. Personal first hand experience, DON'T TRY) or just sleep on the sofas. PS, its waayyy more fun if more people go, cos being there alone is a bit the sad.

Thanks,
Cow.

So yeah, PLEASE SIGN THE CONSENT FORM.

By the way plogs will be assigned after Annual Show. Try and remember what you've done so far and you won't have to crap so much anymore.

Anyway, to everyone in Owl, thanks for the response after the email. Hope guys can keep up this attitude for the rest of the year and it WILL be a meaningful one.

One week to AS (:

AS Prep again

Hi Owl

Tomorrow will be AS Prep once again. Remember that AS is just two weeks away (: the effort you put in will reflect in the standard of the show that we produce in the end, so just give it you all for this last stretch and you won't be disappointed.

Anyway, here's the email.

Annual Show is only 2 weeks away! Please do try your best and show what 01 Raffles is capable of! We will be having Annual Show Prep 5 tomorrow, details are as follows:

Date: 11th April 2011
Time: 3.45 - 6.45pm
Reporting venue: Gym Hall Atrium
Things to bring: Sec 1 dancers, please bring your unwanted shirts for costumes comm., Sec 2/3 dancers, please bring your unwanted t-shirts and shorts, preferably dark coloured.
Reporting attire: PE attire

We will be having a showcase at the end of act, so all the comms and dancers, please get ready

And PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't embarrass yourselves by sending emails like "whoo potato" that doesn't make any sense nor concern anyone in 01 at all. So TIAN YI, TAKE NOTE.

It's not really that difficult to check the "to" field under email. Spamming more than a hundred people with something useless is pretty embarrassing.

And also, AC is coming up soon. So start preparing for it. For sec 1s, make sure you know how to tie a proper square lash. The most important thing about tying a square lash is that it has to be tight and secure. Tying a sucky square lash that I can pull apart with one hand is worse than not tying the square lash at all, so please make sure that you can tie a proper, tight square lash. It is VERY advisable to bring gloves during AC to minimize rope burns.

Just FYI, I have to thank Paul for this enthusiasm and initiative. He sent me the design for our AC structure already and has planned some gadgets as well. While you technically should be concentrating on AS now, this is an extremely good example of the kind of initiative and enthusiasm that I hope that everyone can achieve.

I'll also be assigning plogs for this term's acts so far by the end of AS, so try to take note and remember what happened during the next few acts.

Thanks,
Cow

PS. THANKS PAUL FOR THE EFFORT :D

AS prep....once again.

Lol.

Hi Owl,

Tomorrow is once again, AS prep. Hope that you're making progress in your individual comms!

Here's the email from Yen Ter.

We will be having Annual Show Prep 4 tomorrow! :D Annual Show is only 18 days away! On the 23rd of April, you all will see your hard work coming into fruition (: The dancers with the breathtaking performances, actors and dancers wearing the gorgeous costumes, amazing banners decorating the sides of the hall, props that will wow the audience, and the intricate souvenirs that will remind them of the great evening that they spent at 01 Raffles Annual Show! YAY aren't you excited?

Do try your best, and make each prep a productive one! We only have 7 more preps to Annual Show itself. If needed, Venture ICs please do not hesitate to organise unofficial preps to get things done. Details of tmr's act are as follows:

Date: 6th April 2011
Time: 3.45pm - 6.45pm (please be prepared to stay back)
Reporting Venue: Gym Hall Atrium
Things to bring: Depending on your comm.
Reporting attire: PE attire

Sec 1 dancers, for those who forgot to bring their shirts, please bring them to pass to the costumes comm.
Sec 2/3 dancers, do bring an unwanted t-shirt and shorts. Darker colours are preferred.

Anyway, there's SCGS campfire coming up on Saturday, 30th April. Go sign up for it! I won't repeat again what I already stated below and in the email, so just go and freakin sign up. Tell me your responses ASAP. As of now, Weng Kay and Nicholas are currently going and Paul is tentative, but we can always have more people going :D Especially for sec 1s and espespecially Tian Yi as you HAVE NOT GONE FOR any campfire yet. You're the only sec 1 to. SO PLZZZ JUST SIGN UP.

SMS me ASAP. ASAP. ASAP.

Thanks,

COW! moo~

AS prep...again!

Hi owl

Hope that you learnt something from the email I sent.

Anyway, tomorrow is another AS prep. Pleeeeasseee remember to come prepared with the materials you need (especially arts/aesthetics comms) so you won't waste too much time. Here's the full set of details.

We will be having Annual Show Prep 3 this Monday! (Yay!) Details are as follows:

Date: 4th April 2011
Time: 3:45pm - 6.45pm (be prepared to stay later)
Reporting Venue: Gym Hall Atrium
Things to bring: Depending on your comm
Reporting Attire: PE Attire

Venture Dancers, please bring along your costumes.

Please note that during Annual Show preps, your committees will be dismissed separately. This means that if you take your own sweet time, you will cause the whole comm. to be dismissed later (:

Remember what I said in the email about putting in effort.

Anyway I'll be starting to allocate plogs again and I don't want a repeat of what happened a couple of weeks ago.

I'm sorry if I appear angsty or pissed off but this is an issue within Owl that I would like addressed as soon as possible, hopefully before AC where the entire patrol REALLY needs to cooperate if we are to accomplish anything.

Thanks
Colin

AS Prep

Hi. I'll try to update this blog more frequently.

Anyway tomorrow is AS prep. For the sec 1s who don't know, it's ANNUAL SHOW prep and basically AS is the 01 version of the campfires you keep hearing about and which I have asked you countless times to go for but only Darren went (albeit for a sucky one ): IM SORRY).

Anyway 01's AS is usually pretty awesome (no pressure or anything yenter), but the reason it is so is because of the hard work and effort from everyone. If you want 01's AS to be a success, put in the effort in the few preps before the actual event the results will be plain to see (:

Here's the details for tomorrow's act.

Date: 28th March 2011
Time: 3.45pm - 6.45pm
Venue: Gym Hall Atrium
Reporting attire: PE attire
Things to bring: Stationery, excitement!

Take note of the word in bold.

On a side note, we are almost done with our plogs :D I'll send you a copy of it once I have compiled and received the plogs from everyone. The people who still have not submitted are:

1) Weng Kay (NO VALID REASON)
2) Paul (did the wrong plog, Andrew say your thanks)

I hope that all of you realise that Plogs are a patrol effort and should not be just left to one person to solo everything. In the end, all of you are responsible for what we produce. Especially for Weng Kay, since the plog for batch project planning was allocated at the start of the year, so there should be no excuses.

On a side-r note, GO FOR CAMPFIRES. Its a really good chance to just relax and have fun with your batch/01 mates, and there's always something to laugh about even though the campfire might suck

The two upcoming campfires are: St. Margs (this Friday, 1/4/2011) and St. Andrews (9/4/2011)
In my personal experience St. Andrews campfires are generally of a higher standard so try to go for that one. The pressure of having to go for three campfires a year or having three people per patrol to attend each campfire shouldn't actually be the compelling reason for going for campfires. Encourage your batchmates to go as well so you can just chillax for about two hours or so and have fun (: Really hope that more of you will have greater enthusiasm for these kind of things.

If this lack of attendance for campfires persists, I'll draw up an attendance roster and I really don't want to have to do that.

Thanks,
Colin.

PLOGS

Hello

Absolutely completely sincere apologies for the lack of updates. I know SOME of you have been complaining about the current state of this blog (unconscious....SRITs anyone?). I won't offer any excuses so don't expect any, but its actually due to....

a) My sprained eyebrow
b) My broken nose hair

c) My injured toenail
d) This tiny mosquito bite on my arm that's restricting my movement

Yeah so I hope you understand now why I have been unable to update this blog. Anyway to alleviate this hopeless situation I have used my superior, in-depth understanding of the workings of blogspot.com to add your dear APL, Nigel, under contributors (thanks mus) so that this blog will not die as quickly.

Anyway the main point of this post is for Plogs.

In the previous blogpost (26 Feb IIRC SORRY FOR ONE MONTH DEATH) I listed out the plogs that each of you guys have to do and complete and submit to me by a certain date which I cannot remember at this point since RIBoarding internet just died (2125, 21st March 2011). Anyway, out of all the plogs I assigned, less than half were completed.
I know sometimes that writing and crapping so much plogs can be damn sian, but think of it as a memory of the times you spent with your patrol, with your batch, with 01. This year won’t last forever, and you should treasure the memories you have. Next year you will have a new PL and APL, new sec 1s. This makes every year unique and therefore each memory becomes unique. Treat it as a diary, and at the end of the year when the entire year’s plogs have been collected, take a look through and feel the nostalgia.

With the emo part out of the way, here’s the new list of plogs. I seriously expect everything to be in by this Saturday, latest. Absolute latest. Send them in to me ASAP. And as before, if you think you have a lot of plogs to do, consider me, your PL, aka the Cow. I assigned myself a total of 6 plogs so far. If I can complete them, there isn’t any excuse for you being unable to complete yours, especially for the earlier plogs I already assigned a month ago.

  1. RT Briefing - done
  2. RT prep - done
  3. RT - done
  4. Batch Project Planning  WENGKAY

  25. Job week Day 2 DARREN
  26. SUTC Day 1 PAUL
  27. SUTC Day 2 ANDREW

So yeah, this is your list of plogs. Remember that the minimum word count is:

  2. 1200 for Saturday Activities
  3. 2000 for a full day of camp (for SUTC, this means day 1 & 2)
  4. 1500 for every half day of camp (for Overnight it refers to both days)
Remember to send the plogs to me, plasrifle@hotmail.com, which is this professional sounding email I have. Deadline is Saturday at the ABSOLUTE LATEST.
Thank you.

Over.....night.

Hello, the Cow is speaking. Listen. (more like read, but that kinda ruins the effect).

Anyway, overnight is over, and I hope that you guys are not too angsty about the way things turned out. For the sec 3s and 2s, there's nothing really much to say except that this is the first major event with me as PL (;D) and hopefully you won't find that I'm damn screwed up or something.

This camp is especially important for the sec 1s as your first camp in 01 and your official induction into 01 life. This is really something meaningful, and excuse the cliche, is really something that you will take with you for the rest of your time in 01.

I can't post pictures of overnight cos I'm too lazy I DROPPED MY BLARDY CAMERA AND NOW IT'S DAMN SCREWED UP AND I'M SUPER PISSED OFF, but if it ever gets fixed I will TRY to get it up so we can have an actual memory of this camp, and not just the nightmares from FrightNight (and day, and afternoon, and evening, and then afternooon again).

Now that we have the painfully emotional and awkward moments out of the way, lets move on to the fun stuff!

Cue Drumroll.

PLOGS

Our favourite past time, I know. For the sec 1s who don't know, plogs is short form for Patrol Logs, where you basically recount the activity's activities in a hopefully humourous and informative fashion..... screw it, I'm just kidding. In plogs you just crap damn a lot of nonsense to meet the word limit, but try and add some humour to it, stuff like funny things that happened, GL quotes etc. that also includes what happens during the act.

Note that the word limit is 1k (1000) for normal activities, 1.2k (1200) for saturday activities, and 1.5k (1500) per day for camps. And no, that's not the maximum. It's the absolute minimum.

As of 28/2/11 at 10:00pm, we officially have 15 plogs not done! Here's the assignment of plogs. Please complete EVERYTHING by next wednesday's activity or I will start calling people. I really mean it, complete every single plog you are assigned, or our patrol is screwed.

RT prep - PAUL (original plog too short)
Batch Project Planning - Weng Kay
Goal Setting Act - Colin
Upgrade Works - Timothy
Pass it on - Nicholas
PL Planned act - Paul
QM session - Weng Kay
Fouble - John
Structure Games - Nigel
Induction - Colin
Orientation (Rise of the SU) - Colin
Overnight Briefing - Andrew
VPA 1 - Tian Yi
Overnight Day 1 - Colin
Overnight Day 2 - Nigel
Job week briefing (part 5) - Nicholas

I will be sending out SMSes to remind you (TAKE PITY ON MY PHONE BILL) so please do make the effort to complete these. If you think you are too busy, just remember that everyone else is going through the same amount, if not more than what you are, so being busy isn't an excuse. I've already assigned a lot of these plogs earlier, and only four have been submitted so far. If anything, I've given myself the most amount of plogs to do, and if I can complete them, so can you. Remember that the deadline is next Wednesday, 9th March 2011. I will start calling people on Monday, 7th March.

Also, send me your job week routes by tomorrow, Tuesday 1st March 2011, so we can submit to the J1s on Wednesday. This is an example of the format that you need in your jobweek route, taken from my last year's route. Sec 1s remember that you only need to plan for day 2. AND ALSO INCLUDE YOUR ALTERNATE ROUTE.

Day 1
From RI, take MRT to Buangkok. Walk along Sengkang central to Blocks 203 to 204e. After covering these blocks, stop for lunch at any nearby convenient place, then cross Compassvale Road to cover blocks 205b to 206d. Then cross Compassvale Drive to cover as much of blocks 223a to 226d as possible.

Thank you for taking the time to read this freaking long post.

General Tips and Guides

- Waterproof all items. Place all clothing/equipment in Ziploc bags to waterproof your items. It should be airtight and waterproof such that if it was thrown in a swimming pool, your items can be recovered, dry and in good condition.

- Refer to the picture at the back for your inspection format. Inspection takes place at the start of the camp and the key to it is standardization. Focus on standardizing the location of items, as quality is paramount. Ensure rows are aligned.

- Make sure you have necessary uniform parts before the camp. Bring a hanger along as it’s important to make sure your uniform is not creased. (refer to picture at the back to see position of badges)

- Label your items so they won’t get misplaced.

- Rest well before the camp.

- Last but not least, do note that parts of the camp are meant for us to have fun and forge patrol bonds, and also at times, there is a need for seriousness, especially the investiture, where it is a solemn ceremonial event. Respect your scout uniform, respect others, and respect yourself.

That’s all for overnight camp’s details. Look forward to a great camp and see you there!

Orientation.... Hello sec 1s.

Hello.

This saturday will be orientation.......! yay. I'm going to kope the email from yiming because I'm tired and it's been a long day and I need to sleep and I sprained my eyebrow.

QM SESSION

! Hey guys

Tomorrow is gonna be our favourite QM session! (massive round of applause).

Hi all,

Hope you all had a great Chinese New Year!

This Monday's act will be the first QM Session. We will be doing some equipment maintenance as well as re-organising and finishing up on painting the poles. Hopefully the weather holds up this time.

If I were you I'd bring a change of clothes cos we'll be doing painting. Remember to bring the rags as well. It's not in the email but it was in the previous one so just bring it.

And please submit your plogs. You have nine and a half hours left to do so. If you don't, I will be pretty angsty pissed off happy.

Patrol Meeting

Hey guys

tomorrow (31st Jan) is gonna be patrol meeting (: which is gonna be super fun. At least from our perspective because we planned it. The details are the same, PE at gym hall atrium at 3:45. It's gonna be super fun (repetition :D) so come down with an open mind.... it's gonna get quite GL

On a more serious note, we will be discussing some important issues regarding the patrol (ARHEM COUGH PLOGS COUGH).

"Pass it on" Activity

Hello. sorry for missing last act's blogpost.

Tomorrow is going to be another act :D something cheem called pass it on. We have to report in full scout U (woohoo) so remember to get all the parts you need - having said that this is probably redundant because its now 8pm on tuesday and you probably won't be able to get the parts on time. However, this isn't an excuse to not have the parts because.....you should have the parts. If for some inexplicable reason you don't, beg, borrow or steal and get the parts. TWSS

Here's the email. Shamelessly koped, once again.

Hi 01,

Hope you all had fun during today's activity; and more importantly, experienced something new. The act on Wednesday will also be in preparation for the new Sec Ones. The name of the act is "Pass It On" - and there are two parts to it. There's going to be some fun, some serious stuff, and a lot of hands on activities!

Reporting Attire: Full Scout Uniform
Things to Bring: Change of clothes

On a more serious note, there should not be cases of incomplete uniforms. PLs, please remind your members about this.

See you on Wednesday!

BE THERE ON TIME AND DON'T BE LATE/PON AND REMEMBER TO HAVE ALL THE PARTS.

Beret, shirt, pants, belt, scarf, woggle, socks, shoes. AND CHANGE OF CLOTHES.

Goal Setting Act

Hey guys,

here's the patrol goals which we went through on Wednesday.

Patrol Goals
1. Do our best, aim for first.
2. Patrol standings do not matter as much as 1.
3. 1 and 2 are not mutually exclusive.
4. Get sec 1s back if ponning occurs.
5. Sec 2s should be ASSes, sec 3s must be ASSes, at least 2 FCs :D
6. Patrol lunch after every Saturday activity.

Hope that you guys will be able to make the effort to fulfill these goals (:

Now onto another painful matter. Plogs.

RT Briefing - Nicholas
RT prep - Paul
RT - Timothy (STOP SUANNING ME OKAY I KNOW I DAMN NOOB AT SC2)
Batch Project Planning - Weng Kay
Proficiency Badge Planning - Nigel (DONE)
Test your Limits - Cow
Goal Setting Act - John

DO REMEMBER THAT YOUR PLOGS ARE DUE BY THIS WEEKEND. OR ASAP.

Be like Nigel, he already submitted his 2 days before the deadline. This, people, is what you call "dedication". Also known as, "nothing better to do than play CoD:BO all day".

Goal Setting Act :D

Hey guys,

There's gonna be act tomorrow :D It's goal setting so it (hopefully) means there won't be much physical stuff going on, at least not as much as Monday's. Yet another shameless kope from Raga's email:

Hi 01,

This Wednesday's act will be Goal Setting Activity.

Please do take some time to decide what you want to achieve in 01 and set some personal goals as preparation for tomorrow's activity.

Details are as follows:
Time: 3.45pm - 6.30pm
Things to Bring: Water Bottle and Writing Materials

Regards,
Ragavendra

Yeah. think about goals and stuff. It'll probably be patrol based so LISTEN TO ME AND STOP SCREWING AROUND.

On a side note, for those I have assigned (everyone), remember to submit your plogs to me by this Friday.

Recap - Raffles trail briefing
             Raffles trail prep
             Raffles trail
             Batch project planning
             Proficiency badges stuff
             Test Your Limits

I can't remember who was assigned what but you should know. If you can't remember we'll just settle it tomorrow.

Thanks :D

QM session on 17/1

This Monday will be QM session :D (h5)

For those who don't know QM session is basically maintaining/cleaning/doingweirdstuffto all the equipment which 01 uses. If I'm not (knot) wrong we'll be doing the first two things mentioned above, so remember to bring your rags and cleaning stuff.

QM session can be damn fun or it can be damn boring, you just have to decide for yourself which you want it to be.

Shameless kope from BoonKing's email.
Hi all,
